The investigation on the alleged maladministration of about R35 million at former Ezinqoleni Municipality is in the advanced stage.

It would be recalled that Council directed that the investigation on the alleged maladministration of about R35 million should be finalised with immediate effect. The investigation is conducted both internally and externally by RNM Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) and Provincial Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) respectively.

As of now it can be indicated that documents analysis and interviews have been done and concluded however the most important process of the investigation, which is projects verification is still underway. It needs to be stated that MPAC has visited almost all projects under scrutiny but has not yet made determination in terms of value for money. On the other hand it appears that COGTA has not yet done projects physical verification.

According to the latest report there will be a joint MPAC and COGTA Team special meeting to consolidate their reports for the March 2018 Council Meeting. Once the report has been tabled to Council the public will then be informed of the outcome as it is necessary to do so since this involves public funds.
