28 November 2017

At its meeting today Council resolved to offer an incentive to motorists by reducing all traffic fine debts accumulated on or before 31 October 2017 by 50 percent, for a period of six months up to and including 31 May 2018.

The move comes after a meeting with the Ugu Region 6 Taxi Association, where it transpired that there is a significant amount of debt due to the municipality by taxi owners, which has accumulated over several years.

In light of the fact that the Technical Committee Services Procedure (TCSP) stipulates that all traffic fines and warrants should be collected within two years, the Council was of the view that it makes economic sense to reduce the fines. This is moreover supported by the undertaking made by the taxi association to settle outstanding debt.

The incentive will benefit all motorists who have outstanding traffic fines, and who wish to settle their debt within the allocated period.
