At its meeting held earlier this morning, Council resolved to support a proposal by Margate Rates and Residence Association to partner with the municipality in dealing with infrastructure issues.

This warm gesture has been welcomed by Council, who pledged their support. The Association has identified the Margate South Beach Walkway as the immediate project requiring priority attention because it is currently vandalized, yet it is in a prime tourist position. To this end they have taken it upon themselves to source the services of consultants to assess the damage and recommend remedial action.

Speaking at Council, the Municipal Manager commended the gesture by the Association, hailing it as a step forward for cooperative governance and social responsibility initiatives.

The partnership between the municipality and Margate Rates and Residence Association will explore other areas of cooperation in the future, but is likely to include road and verge maintenance as well as refuse removal.
