Different communities of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality officially received projects that will change their lives for the better.

The Ray Nkonyeni Municipality leadership started 2017 on the high note when on 20 January 2017 went around handing over projects to communities that surely changed their lives for the better.

The busy day started with Her Worship the Mayor Cllr Nomusa Mqwebu accompanied by other leadership personnel together with Inkosi DF Mavundla handed over 96 houses of 100 houses constructed for the communities who were displaced from the area due to political violence in the early and mid - 1990. These 100 houses are an addition to the 1004 KwaMavundla Rural Housing project and are as a result of the request by some community members who wanted to return to their area of origin.

The next stop by the leadership was the handing over of 35 title deeds to the community of Gamalakhe for the old rental housing stock. These 35 title deeds are an addition of 86 title deeds that have already been handed over to the deserving Gamalakhe beneficiaries. One of the 35 beneficiaries was a 93 year-old Ms Ncobela who was visited by the leadership at her home since she could not be at the Gamalakhe Community Hall where other beneficiaries were waiting. Ms Ncobela was very joyful for having the paper confirming ownership of the property at her age and she was even pleased when Her Worship, the Mayor gave Ms Ncobela a birthday cake for her to enjoy. As of now 121 title deeds have been handed over to Gamalakhe beneficiaries and the remaining 32 have already been registered at the deeds office and it is anticipated that they will be transferred before the end of this financial year.

As the day progressed, the leadership proceeded to KwaNositha to hand over a R1, 8 million pedestrian bridge which connects KwaNositha and Gamalakhe communities. The community of KwaNositha was overjoyed to have this bridge constructed as they will now be able to go to Gamalakhe Community Health Centre and the pupils will be able to go to the high schools even when there is inclement weather of which it was a problem before. The leadership commended the contractor and the management for having constructed such a state of the art pedestrian bridge which was also completed timeously.‚Äč
