The Mayor has learnt with great shock and distress of the brutal murder of four children whose bodies were discovered at their home in Encokeni Village on Saturday, 02 September 2017.
The Ray Nkonyeni Municipality is deeply saddened by the awful murder of the four Mbhele Family children from Encokeni Village in Ward 1 of the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality which allegedly took place in the evening of 01 September 2017.
The children, Bandile (boy aged 12), Lwandile (boy aged 10), Silindile (girl aged 07) and Lwandle (boy aged 04) were brutally killed and what is more distressful is that they were stabbed to death with three of them having ears cut off. Her Worship, the Mayor Councillor Nomusa Mqwebu accompanied by both Speakers of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality and Ugu District Municipality and some other Councillors visited the Mbhele family on Monday 04 September 2017 to comfort the family and also to hear for themselves on what really happened and also to see how the two municipalities can lay a hand to ensure that the young souls are laid to rest in a dignified manner.
The Mayor was very much saddened by the fact that these young innocent souls were siblings, who were apparently alone and therefore vulnerable to harm at the time of the attack. Besides passing the words of comfort and also committing that the government will assist towards funeral arrangements, Her Worship the Mayor also emphasised that government will do everything in its power to ensure that all concerned are brought to justice. In the same vein she appealed to members of the community to cooperate with the police's efforts in doing this, including volunteering any information they may have at their disposal.
She concluded by offering the municipality’s heartfelt condolences to the Mbhele family, relatives and the community at large.
