According to the recent media reports the Margate Olympic Swimming Pool has been dysfunctional and has been closed during the past two (2) months this year.

In light of this challenge, the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality would like to advise the members of the public that this challenge is being attended to and has been budgeted for in the current financial year 2017/2018.

In addition, the municipality has since appointed Royal Haskoning DHV Engineers to do repairs to the pool which also include necessary testing required to establish the cause of the leaks. In the current state the pool water levels drop all the time or sink to the low level hence according to the investigations conducted by the municipality and the engineers detected that there are leaks in the floor cavity underneath the panel.

The municipality has set aside an amount of R800 000 in order to address these leaks challenges and however the engineer will subsequently do the designs and then proceed with the actual construction thereafter.

The repairs to the pool are expected to be completed in time before the summer holidays. At the moment, Ray Nkonyeni Municipality would like to appeal to the general public to be patient during the construction phase and should there be another complaints regarding the Margate Swimming Pool be directed to the Customer Care Line at 039 688 2027 or SMS 32061 (R1. 00 per sms) or email services@rnm.gov.za.
