Closing Date: 31 MARCH 2019

The public is hereby notified that the Council resolved to adopt an Incentive drive in an attempt to reduce its long outstanding debt book. The Incentive aims to write off arrear interest, subject to the stipulated qualifying criteria, as an incentive to encourage ratepayers who are in arrears with rates and services to pay these arrears.

It is to be noted that the consumer will have to APPLY for the incentive via the prescribed form and will be subject to the following:
  1. Payment of the full capital in full; or
  2. Signing of an arrangement in terms of section 57 or 58 of the Magistrates Court Act 32 of 1944 to pay off the capital debt within a period not exceeding twelve (12) months. The repayment amount of the arrangement will encapsulate current billing as well; and
  3. The signing of the above mentioned arrangement documents will encapsulate a consent to judgment and if the applicant renegades on his arrangement, judgment will be taken against the applicant for the arrear amount.
  4. Legal action and all credit control and debt collection procedures will not be stayed during this “incentive window” but will continue until an applicant actually finalizes the application and is accordingly approved.
  5. All debtors that have current arrangements in place will also have the opportunity to take advantage of this incentive and will have the opportunity to follow the application process.
  6. Once the application is approved interest will not be raised on the account until the full capital is paid, the arrangement period has lapsed or the arrangement is terminated due to default of payment by the debtor
