RNM Council approved Parking and Related Matters By-Laws to manage, control and regulate public parking within the municipal boundaries.

The Ray Nkonyeni Municipal Council in its meeting held earlier today, 25 September 2018, approved Parking and Related Matters By-Laws which are meant to manage, control and regulate public parking within the municipal boundaries. Adoption of these By-Laws by Council follows public consultation process which was held during the month of August.

Development of these By-Laws came after realising that Ray Nkonyeni Municipality has a dramatic increase in the volume of vehicles utilizing parking spaces in all of its towns especially Port Shepstone and Margate. This brought about a lot of strain in the towns’ road network and has made the need for Parking By-Laws, Parking Management System and effective Law Enforcement. Since these By-Laws have been adopted by Council then they will now be processed for proclamation in the Provincial Gazette and then will take effect six months from the date of publication or on such earlier date as may be determined by the publication of a commencement notice in the Provincial Gazette.

The said By-Laws will apply to all areas which fall under the jurisdiction of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality and is binding on all persons unless permission has been given by an authorised officer.
